Matching Gift Program Guidelines

Summary of Program.  The purpose of the Matching Gifts Program is to encourage contributing members of Saint James Episcopal Church to financially support the charitable activities of non-profit organizations of Delaware and Otsego Counties.

Eligible Organizations.  Organizations must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  In addition, organizations must have an office located within Delaware and Otsego Counties.

Ineligible Organizations.  Ineligible organizations include athletic organizations (athletic booster clubs of educational institutions), civic organizations (fraternal, social, union or veteran groups) and institutions whose purpose is to promote a particular political belief. The Matching Gifts Program will not support charitable projects such as auctions and tag sales.  The program will not match general or discretionary contributions to Saint James Episcopal Church or other churches.  Direct personal contributions made (not pledged) in the form of cash, check or credit card payments are eligible.  Each contributing members of Saint James Episcopal Church, who is eighteen years of age or older, is eligible to participate.  A contributing member is defined as a parishioner who attends regularly and pledges or supports Saint James Episcopal Church on a regular basis.  Gifts to charitable organizations will be matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis, up to a maximum of $200 per parishioner per year.  The smallest eligible gift is $25.

“The 144th Convention discourages parishes from contributing financially or in any other way to whose primary function is abortions, and…encourages parishes to affirm the sanctity of life through support of Anglicans for Life and its educational and outreach programs”

Unqualified Gifts. Unqualified gifts include tuition, fees for service, student fees, athletic programs, bequests, dues payable to national or local groups and subscription fees for publications.  Matching gifts may not be used to fulfill personal obligations or for any payment that affords the contributor a personal benefit.

Administrative Conditions.  Saint James Episcopal Church may suspend, revoke or terminate the Matching Gifts Program at any time.  The interpretation, application and administration of the program shall be determined by The Endowment Committee.

How the Program Operates

  • A parishioner should complete Application Form Part A (linked below)
  • The organization should review Part A, sign Part B and forward the form to The Matching Gift Program, Saint James Episcopal Church, 305 Main Street, Oneonta, New York 13820.  The form must be received by February 15 in order to be considered by the Matching Gifts Program.
  • Upon determination of eligibility, Saint James will pay matching gifts to the organization.
